Everything We Want in Washington Rhone-Style Reds: Kevin White 2016s

We spent several days tasting Kevin White's 2016 Rhone-style releases, vacillating in preference between
La Fraternite and En Hommage by the hour. It was hard work picking a favorite -- both are fantastic and given the difference in make up, who needs to? Dollar for dollar, Kevin's making some of -- perhaps THE -- best Rhone-style wines in Washington state. Fantastic fruit, buoyed by freshness, they are imminently food-friendly, accessible now, with plenty of stuffing for midterm aging. In short, we can't picture wanting more from similar, similarly priced wines.
Sean Sullivan, founder of Washington Wine Report and Washington critic for Wine Enthusiast, summed up the new releases beautifully: "Fans of Kevin White Winery will not be disappointed in the winery's latest releases from the 2016 vintage. All bring a compelling sense of freshness to them (even more so than usual) in keeping with the vintage. The price (appropriately) gone up modestly, $30 for the La Fraternite and En Hommage [up from $28]. Still, Kevin White's wines easily remain some of the highest quality-to-price ratio bottles to be had from Washington. All highly recommended."

$26.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($29.95 regular)
Kevin White's star has risen; his Chateauneuf du Pape-style La Fraternite demonstrates why. Superbly balanced, highlighting pure bright and dark red fruits, it leaps from the glass with lively violet and spice accents. Highly versatile on the dinner table, I'd go anywhere from grilled tuna or salmon to ratatouille or chicken. 64% Grenache, 27% Mourvèdre, and 9% Syrah from Upland, Boushey and Sugarloaf Vineyards.  - Marcus

Pulsing with blue and black fruits, sweet purple flowers, peppery spice, and savory minerals, this deftly melds New and Old World styles into a Syrah that I can't imagine even occasional Syrah drinkers not coveting. A little boisterous, a lot refined, this smooth number will sing with your favorite hearty fall grillables. 100% Syrah from Boushey and Elephant Mountain Vineyards. - Marcus
