Some wine critics have their favorite producers. But when it comes to Cristom 2017 single vineyard Pinots, those who have weighed in are darn near unison. 97s, 96s, 95s, from three different sources probably means the '17s are outstanding. We'll throw our own praise behind them, as we tasted the whole line-up over several days and think they're superb. Scores validated!
97 points PinotFile: "This wine has more tannic 'guts,' but also the most concentrated fruit. Lovely aromas of dark red cherry, spice, brioche and rose petal. Midweight-plus in style, featuring waves of dark red and purple fruits that saturate the palate. Bold, yet charming, with enough juicy acidity to balance the tannic backbone. I was more enamored with the wine when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. Merci!"
Us: Also 95 James Suckling, 95 Vinous. We found this delightfully stately and elegant, and incredibly good.
97 points James Suckling: "A very distinctive nose with a wild array of red berries and a thread of blue fruit, too. There a dried wild-rose perfume and a violet-like thread with subtle, herbal-based notes. It's a moving target in the glass with incredible complexity. This has a gift of revelation. The palate has a very assertive edge with a powerful core of intense tannins that carry a spicy thread of rich dark cherries and dark plums in a defined, savory and athletic stance. A star of the vintage. Drink over the next decade or more."
Us: Darker and more powerful with a welcoming spice profile we immediately went gaga for.
96 points PinotFile: "Enthralling aromas of muddled cherry and sous bois. Very juicy, with vivid flavors of purple and black fruits and spice. Impeccable balance, with an energetic and extremely long finish. Choose any superlative you want. I fell hard for this one that was still enchanting when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle."
Us: The lushest and darkest in fruit of the single vineyards, it is juicy, supple, and instantly delicious.

95 points PinotFile: "Brooding aromas of black cherry, rose and leaf. The fruit trends more to the dark red spectrum in this middleweight wine. The ripe tannins are in gorgeous balance, and the lasting finish soars with exceptional cherry goodness. More expressive and more seductive when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle."
Us: Also 95 James Suckling, 95 Vinous, this adds a mouthwatering saline note that had us reaching for extra tastes.
