It's a Cameron kinda Friday, which always starts off the weekend right! You'll sense a theme here with 2018 Cameron wines: the best Reserve Chard we've tasted; other-realm Dundee Hills Pinot (which is nearly sold out). So as not to be obtuse, we're saying that it's obvious Cameron crushed it in 2018. Cameron fans you know what to do–lock yours in with a quickness!
$34.15 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($37.95 regular)
Three barrels from Clos Electrique plus one barrel from Abbey Ridge combine to make the best vintage of Cameron Reserve Chard we've tasted. Outstanding character, texture, and electricity, shining with sweet lemon, baked pear, and marzipan. Absolutely delicious, totally mouthwatering. The gents at Cameron are particularly proud of this and they damn well should be!
Down to the last of this incredible Pinot value. Whether you already drunk your first or second round or are just feeling greedy and want more, more, more...we won't judge. Last call!
$26.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($29.95 regular)
The 2018 Dundee Hills was slated for our Oregon Everyday Pinot club originally. And then I tasted it...and re-tasted it on the second day. It has always been a "duh" wine for us as in, "duh, of course it's amazing!" So we're never surprised at how good it is...until I dove into the ‘18. Of course it's tasty but the texture and weight of the 2018 is something other-realm for Cameron Dundee Hills Pinot, something special that's going to set this release apart from all others that have come before it. Something deserving of the Reserve club!
As it turns out, it wasn’t just my inclination or tastes that catapulted this into reserve status. Ever aware of the sales market, the winemaking team of John Paul and Tom Sivilli put in a few barrels that were slated for the upper-end bottlings, which is clearly evident.
An extra-luscious model for what was already a stone-cold slayer of higher-priced wines without this kind of pedigree. From old vines in Abbey Ridge (~75%) and Clos Electrique (~25%) Vineyards, Cameron's two crown jewels, it shows complexities and subtleties that basically don't exist at this price. It’s the vines, man, the vines!
At virtually any other winery in the Willamette Valley, it wouldn’t exist at this price–the winery would charge more. So much beautiful Cameron character combines with a heavenly silky texture–the weight and movement of the wine is wow-inducing! Dark raspberries, black cherries, lavender, fresh rose, coriander–but it's the pure silk that'll keep you coming back for sip after sip. Drink it now or anytime over the coming 8-10 years. But really, you should drink it NOW and then stock up while you can on this incredible Pinot at a giveaway price.
