Birds, Planes? A Pair of Zins!

Is that a bird? Is that a plane? No, it's a pig flying once again as your Pacific Northwest wine guys bring you a duo of Sonoma Zins! Our last offer for Bucklin's Ancient Field Blend was a smashing success so we're back with the new release and with its younger sibling, Bambino.

The decision to feature these fantastic Zins from our neighbors to the south was easy. A wine from vines planted in the 1880s? Ancient! That's super cool and hey, the Northwest has nothing like that. A Wine Spectator Smart-Buy Zin to pair with it? Sweet! Both are made by a winemaker with serious Oregon credentials—Will Bucklin spent many years as winemaker for King Estate in the Willamette Valley.

Wine Spectator's a big fan and we are, too. Come and get 'em!

94 points Wine Spectator: "Bubbling over with personality yet remains focused and polished, this offers an array of currant and raspberry flavors accented by bitter chocolate, orange zest and smoked pepper beef. Finishes with briary, ripe tannins. Zinfandel, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, Grand Noir, Syrah and Carignan. Drink now through 2032."

Our "Ancient Field Blend" comes from the original vines that were planted on Old Hill Ranch in the 1880's. Approximately 65% Zinfandel with the remaining varieties co-harvested and fermented together. Includes Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Grand Noir, Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvedre to name a few. 12 Acres, 30 grape varieties, 1 wine. -Bucklin

$25.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case order ($28.95 regular)

93 points Wine Spectator, Smart Buy: "This opens with a fruit bomb of wild berry briar patch, then transitions into an appealingly rustic and structured zest fest, revealing heaps of licorice, roasted sage and forest floor accents that build toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2030. 1,192 cases made."

The now mature "Bambino" vines were planted in 2000 and represent our "young vine" Zinfandel. The 2019 blend is at least 75% Zinfandel that is co-fermented with Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouchet. -Bucklin
