A Wine of the Vintage, Daily Drinkers: New Italian Favorites

Hello from Marcus!

Italy has been on my mind, and in my glass. I'm planning my next "field trip" and enjoying as many wines as I can in preparation. It's tough work, but I'm up for it.

Here are my highlights from the last month of tasting, from cellar worthy gems to Tuesday night pop-and-pours.

Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT 2013

$67.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($74.95 regular)

Every fan of Italian wine should have this in the cellar. It is completely deserving of its review (I can vouch from the glass I enjoyed yesterday). 100% Sangiovese, beautiful and expressive, best if cellared four or more years.

97 points Wine Advocate: "Hands down beautiful, the 2013 Cepparello is a creation of stunning elegance and balance. This vintage (that is cooler compared to 2012 and 2011) delivers an exceptionally soft and mellow bouquet with slightly sweet sensations of ripe cherry and fragrant blue flower. Soft tones of spice and cinnamon bring up the rear. The wine is medium to full in terms of body weight, and the finish is driven by cool tones of balsam and menthol herb. The 2013 Cepparello is one of my favorite wines of the vintage. Paolo De Marchi is a blue-chip winemaker. His 2013 Cepparello (100% Sangiovese) is one of the best wines I tasted from Tuscany this year."

San Felice Il Grigio da San Felice Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2011

$40.45 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($44.95 regular)

#1 Wine of the Year 2015, Wine Enthusiast, 95 points

"A fantastic combination of power and finesse, this opens with aromas of under brush, ripe plum, truffle, leather, smoke and a balsamic note. The firm, delicious palate delivers fleshy black cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and mocha. Velvety tannins support the juicy flavors."

Very (very) limited. 9 bottles available.

And now to my new Italian daily drinkers:

Cordero di Montezemolo Dolcetto d'Alba 2015

$17.05 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($18.95 regular)

My favorite Dolcetto in years, and another stunner from Cordero di Montezemolo, whose wines we've grown to admire for their regal nature and solid vlaue. A beautiful mix of gulpable juiciness and elegant savoriness, it'll pair with more foods than we have room to list. Last night, it was manicotti...

Paitin Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca Veja 2012

$19.75 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($21.95 regular)

Yum and yum, this superbly versatile Nebbiolo is inexpensive enough for regular drinking and good enough for fancy drinking. Absolutely delicious is right!

91 points Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2012 Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca' Veja has turned out beautifully. Supple, open-knit and absolutely delicious, the 2012 offers up a compelling mix of sweet red berries and stone fruit laced with attractive floral overtones. This is a classic example of Nebbiolo from Alba, with that extra kick of mid-palate pliancy that is such a Paitin signature.

I look forward to helping you with an order. Thanks for your support!
