This may be the most diverse trifecta of wines we've ever offered together (ever). Curiously, all three are from the same grape: Nebbiolo. One of our three favorite grapes, made in three vastly different styles -- rosé, nouveau, and the standard bearer and king of Italian wines, Barolo.Timothy Malone Nebbiolo Rosato Columbia Gorge 2016
Oh yeah! Super fresh, it goes down like juice. Mouthwateringly citrusy (honey gold grapefruit, for starters), it's a delightfully uncomplicated thirst-quenching rosé with bright acidity. Tim's rose was one of our favorites last year and this one is better! Sourced from a really cool vineyard site in the Gorge, Garnier Vineyards. This will be a staple in our houses, given the price and pure deliciousness.Minimus #21 Nebbiolo Nouveau 2016
$24.25 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($26.95 regular)
The last time we offered one of Minimus' experimental wines, we said that we'd never tasted a Northwest wine like it. Not to sound like a broken record but, well, it can't be helped.
Faced with a decision at harvest of what to do with Willamette Valley Nebbiolo that needed to be picked but wasn't at the point where it could stand alone as a structured red wine, winemaker Chad and his assistant Meredith found the perfect method and solution: a nouveau-style Nebbiolo.
Existing in the world between red and pink (though decidedly more red in color), this beautifully aromatic wine smells of roses and cherries. At 11% alcohol, it's wonderfully refreshing; we suggest serving it at 55 degrees or so. Speaking of 55, there were only 55 cases made of this gem, so don't expect it to last long. - MarcusBruna Grimaldi Barolo Camilla 2013
$34.15 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($37.95 regular)
We are loving Bruna Grimaldi's wines, and have since my visit to her cellar and vineyards in 2010. The incredibly charming Camilla, from what is already being referred to as a profound vintage for Barolo (2013), begins with a stately and elegant entrance of typical Barolo splendor: rose, licorice, Amarena cherry, rosemary and tar. Slowly building power emerges but as with Bruna's style, this emphasizes allure over muscle. Decant to enjoy now, with gnocchi and pork sugo, or age for two to ten years. - Marcus
