98 Points, A New Standard for Arterberry Maresh Pinot

There's no subtle way to introduce these: the highest scoring Arterberry Maresh Pinot noirs ever! We spent the weekend tasting the new line-up and confirm a new level of brilliance in Arterberry Maresh Pinot.

Positively massive new reviews were published late last week in The Wine Advocate including Arterberry Maresh's 2019s. 98 points for Maresh and Weber Vineyards, 97+ for Old Vines, and 94 for the lovely '19 Dundee Hills Pinot.

The scores themselves are breathtaking but we'll add a little extra meaning: from our Pinot noir-loving perspective Arterberry Maresh 2019s are as close to perfection as the scores indicate. No Willamette Valley winery captures the purity of Pinot noir quite like Arterberry Maresh and in these 2019s, it is awe-inspiring. It's why we've been fans since the first vintage (2005).

98 points Wine Advocate: "It's extraordinarily expressive and complex this vintage, with detailed cranberry, raspberry and tangerine aromas and nuances of rose petals and aniseed. The palate has a weightless feel from its bright acidity, silky texture and surprising fruit concentration, finishing very long and pure."

Us: Here it is: pure. A glorious, succulent, seductive, magnificently pure expression of Dundee Hills Pinot noir. This is highly likely to join if not surpass the 2010 Loie's as the single greatest Arterberry Maresh Pinot noir.

98 points Wine Advocate: "The aromatics of the 2019 Pinot Noir Weber Vineyard are off the charts! Dark fruits are streaked with violet, burnt orange, botanicals and game meats on the nose, and the palate is equally concentrated and layered. It offers waves of dark fruits, an abundance of silty tannins and incredible freshness that causes the flavors to burst with energy and call you in for another sip. This singular, stunning expression is "a freak of nature," explains proprietor Jim Maresh, who only recently revived the single-vineyard cuvée from the Weber vineyard, 3.5 acres planted in 1983. Maresh says that unforeseen circumstances led to very, very low yields this vintage (less than 0.5 tons per acre), which seems reflected in the intensity of this wine. It should be very long-lived in the cellar."

Us: What a way to welcome back Weber into the Arterberry Maresh line-up! The note above is excellent and the wine, even more excellent.

97+ points Wine Advocate: "Medium garnet, it has a distinct mineral character, with tones of flint and iodine complementing spicy cranberry and blackberry preserves. The palate is silky and layered, with intense, dark red fruit and a very long, flavorful finish. It's got some inherent power that will allow it to develop well in bottle."

Us: The first Old Vines that is 100% Maresh Vineyard, specifically Block 1: 1970 plantings right in front of the Maresh Red Barn. Gorgeous, red-fruited, super-sexy.

94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills is ethereal and perfumed this vintage. It offers pure scents of raspberry preserves, bergamot, tangerine and Angostura with wafts of sweet balsamic. The palate is soft, bright and super silky, with layer after layer of sweet fruit, spice and citrus, and it finishes long and perfumed."

Us: A fabulous gateway to Arterberry Maresh, the '19 captures the house style superbly: pretty, aromatic, silky in texture and seamless in feel. From Maresh and Weber, it's a knockout value.
