By virtually all accounts, 2010 was indeed the vintage of a lifetime in Brunello. The vast majority of '10s are long sold out due to the incredible press, but not so with a handful of Riservas which were released much later.
Today we have two exquisite, highly collectible Brunello Riservas, both at 97 points. Like the best 2010s, these stunners can be decanted and enjoyed now with hearty meals but will certainly be even better with a few years or more of age.
As you'd expect, very limited quantities of each are available.Lisini Brunello di Montalcino Ugolaia 2010
$88.15 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($97.95 regular)
97 points Wine Spectator, Highly Recommended: "This complex red shows a duality between the aromas of rose, strawberry and currant and the savory notes of earth, tobacco and mineral. The muscular structure is more allied to the latter, but this remains fresh, resonant and long. You could match this to a grilled steak now or let mellow for a few years. Best from 2019 through 2035."La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010
$69.25 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($76.95 regular)
97 points James Suckling: "Fascinating aromas of dried flowers, sandalwood, cedar and plums. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. Gloriously complex and savory. Dusty texture. Just makes you want to drink it.
