97-point Birthday Barolo!
Hello from Marcus!
Even before my visit to the winery in the middle of the epic 2010 vintage, when I was asked about my favorite wineries in the world, one name always came up: Cavallotto. Their wines are perfect, yes perfect, expressions of Nebbiolo. For many years I've had a special place in my heart for their Barolo and as I was enjoying my birthday breakfast this morning, in popped Wine Spectator's Insider with a birthday treat: 97 points for Cavallotto's San Giuseppe!
Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis San Giuseppe Riserva 2010$98.95 in any 12 bottle or Build a Case* order ($109.95 regular)
97 points Wine Spectator, Hot Wine: "An old-school style, this complex red features an array of cherry, berry, leather, tobacco and underbrush flavors, backed by a dense, beefy structure. Long and powerful, with a savory, saline aftertaste. Shows ample fruit up front, but should be better in two to three years. Best from 2019 through 2036." Pre-sale, arriving first week of December
Back in 2010, Cavallotto was being written about as one of the best kept secrets in Piemonte, and the best Barolo producer you've never heard of. We landed there one sunny afternoon in mid-September. Alfio Cavallotto brought a dozen wines to the table, left the room, and I remarked to my colleague, "we've hit the motherload!" I had tears in my eyes, the wines were that good.
In the years since, huge scores and write-ups from the best known international wine publications have firmly planted Cavallotto on every Barolo lover's radar. And so it continues...
I look forward to helping you with an order while I eat birthday cake. Thanks for your support!
Marcus
