This is not a typo:95 points Wine Spectator Insider, $25 Willamette Valley Pinot noir. We're breaking some records.
Where this wine ends up in Wine Spectator's Top 100 is anyone's guess, and there's no need to offer our opinion, which would simply fan the flames of a "Hot Wine." We advise you to act quickly (now) -- this only appeared in the Wine Spectator Insider two hours ago but by the end of the day, things are going to go crazy.
95 points Wine Spectator Insider:"Impressive for the polished texture and elegant complexity, offering vibrant raspberry, orange peel and spice flavors that gain momentum toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2023."
And while you're shopping for highly rated Oregon Pinot, here are a couple of our favorites with huge reviews:
96 points Wine Advocate:"The 2016 Pinot Noir Old Vines has a lovely pure nose of pink peppercorn, dried black tea leaves, red and black licorice and violets with dried cranberries, red cherries and layers and layers of spice. Medium to full-bodied, it has amazing concentration of flavor in the mouth, blossoming out to pure red fruits and spicy layers, with cinnamon and autumn leaves accents, very fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity, finishing very, very long with tons of earth-laced fruit. Wow!"
96 points PinotFile:"'Oh, my God!' aromas of fresh cherry, exotic spices including clove and allspice, fertile earth and a hint of gingerbread. The flat-out delicious red cherry core is in sync with a lovely Wassail spice accent. Seamlessly composed in a mid weight style, with welcome vibrancy and a lasting echo of scent and fruit on the finish. I especially liked this wine for its uniqueness. A wine-gasm that is a must for Pinot lovers."
Some wines speak to the past, some are here and now, others offer glimpses at how the Willamette Valley might evolve. Only one winery encompasses it all–storied past, delicious present, thrilling future: Eyrie.
