Thomas, the most elusive of Oregon’s Pinot noirs, arrived this week. You won’t see an offering from us; that creates chaos and the supply doesn’t moderately match the demand. If you’ve asked about it and know us, you’ve received an email with an allocation.
What’s the 2014 actually like? Sipping it day one: uniquely 2014 and uniquely Thomas. 2014s show an exquisitely sweet fruit component unlike any vintage I’ve witnessed in the last decade. Add to that Thomas’s distinct aromatic profile (in my attempt to describe it over morning coffee, I’m coming up short). Having drunk a 2003, 2009, and 2013 Thomas in the last month has shown me the clear linkage but still, the aromas are ineffable.
To me, the ’14 is the most youthfully approachable Thomas since 2006. Tasting it on day three, it shows only freshness. I’ll be hanging on to a handful for what I hope will be a decade (the hope part is that sometimes I can’t resist pulling them sooner). I’ll add the ’14 to my 2005-2013 Thomas vertical.
