Reading wine reviews this morning, I was reminded of a major head-scratching annoyance: a certain well-known Oregon winery has a wine -- from Oregon -- in which "Grand Cru" is part of the name.
No matter your vineyards, you can't use terms with meaning, like Grand Cru, willy nilly. Grand Crus are bestowed upon vineyards; a winery or vineyard doesn't get to choose whether or not they are Grand Cru.
We have no such classification in Oregon, nor anywhere in the country. Until we do, maybe we should keep the talk of Oregon's "Grand Crus" to casual conversation.
